It's weird to read the complaints about Sol Caribe because we were very happy here. I originally booked a different room at a different location and it was awful. So awful, I walked down the street to Sol Caribe and asked for a room for 4 nights. I found the service to be excellent. There was always someone at the front desk and when I put the "please clean this room" sign on the door, it was cleaned within a few hours. The beds are clean, lots of pillows, and comfortable. I loved that there are 3 beds! The twins each had their own and so did I. We don't watch TV on general (everyone has cellphones & the Internet is banging) so I didn't know if the TV worked or not. Plenty of outlets. The kitchen is adequate and stocked. The fridge is a bonus. There is also a sealed five gallon bottle of purified water, which was awesome. I wasn't expecting a luxury resort, I don't know why anyone else was, either! The toilet works fine. The shower actually had hot water sometimes. Still, it's HOT on Isla Mujeres so there is no need for hot water. They provide shampoo, soap and lotion. Nothing was dirty in our room. Shower didn't drain well, but it didn't bother me. It drains eventually. The AC was a godsend and works perfectly. We even got cold! There's a huge fan, too. Comfort is key and Sol Caribe delivered. I think this room is big! Bigger than many US hotel rooms for sure. Plus, I like all the beds crammed in. It gave the room character. I do not know about a sewer treatment plant nearby. That seems like a suspicious thing to add to a review. The location is one small building from the main street, so I don't know where this sewage plant would be. Even if there was one, it would affect everything nearby as well, and that isn't the case. The hotel is easy to find & very well labeled. The rooftop is as amazing as described. About 2 minutes away by foot is Hidalgo Street, which has tons of shops and restaurants, no vehicles allowed. Playa Norte takes about 6 minutes to walk to. The ferry station is less than 10 for sure. Cons: It is noisy, but not more than anywhere else. There is music, dogs barking, barge horns, rain, occasional vehicle noise. It was all fine. All of the buildings here seem to have been constructed at random without an actual plan. There are stairs without railings and areas between buildings with trash and broken things. It is what it is. Do not come to Isla Mujeres if you plan to complain about things being old, rundown or not of U.S. standard quality. It isn't, but it's authentic and gorgeous.

We loved this little hotel. It was really convenient to shops and restaurants without being in the middle of the chaos. The rooms were small, but very clean and had everything we needed. The rooftop terrace was amazing and if we would have stayed longer would have utilized the grill and cooking area there.

Very central location, with a rooftop terrace that's really hard to beat. The owner is super friendly, I lost my wallet and on the last day, he came running after us on the way out to the ferry because someone had returned it. The ac works wonders and the rooms are very clean!
